Meaning of Hara
‘Hara’ is Japanese for abdomen and within eastern philosophies it is the location of life force energy (the sea of qi). It is where vitality is stored.
Who We Are
Stephen Davis is an eastern medicine practitioner and owner of Hara Wellness. He was inspired to create Hara Wellness as it connects many aspects of his life long study along the path of the warrior healer and his belief that everyone has a right to good health. His healing practice is an extension of his martial arts and qigong prqactice and how integrates ancient Eastern philosophies into a modern context.
Stephen's approach to healing is by harmonizing an individual’s energy to reduce symptoms such as pain, anxiety, stress, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue, and gastrointestinal disorders. His specialties are orthopedics, pain & stress management, internal medicine, and emotional balancing.
What makes Stephen's healing sessions unique is that he explains how and what he is treating from an eastern medicine perspective, and treats mind, body, and spirit utlziing a variety approaches from Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean medicine. Lastly, he offers you healing recommendations between healing session that can produce longer and lasting effects.
Stephen completed his Master of Science in Oriental (MSOM) Medicine at Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College (AIMC) in Berkeley, CA. At AIMC Stephen studied traditional Japanese and Chinese medicine including herbal therapy, acupuncture, nutrition, tui-na, shiatsu, and medical qigong. Stephen also studied in meridian therapy, facial acupuncture for rejuvination, and advance moxibustion techniques in Japan at Shikoku Medical College. Stephen is a Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc), Certified Medical Qigong (CMQ) practitioner, and holds national certifications in Oriental Medicine, Acupuncture, and Chinese Herbology from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
Stephen was born in San Francisco California, and raised in the S.F. East Bay where he attended Berkeley public schools and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from San Francisco State University. Previously in his career, Stephen has had the wonderful opportunity of giving back to the Bay Area community by working in the field of education as a classroom teacher, director of youth mentoring and tutoring, conflict mediation instructor, tutor to students with special needs, and as a job developer for pregnant and parenting teens in urban communities of Oakland and San Francisco.
